Photographer Builds A Waterhole And Sets A Camera Trap To Capture African Wildlife (10 Pics)

Published 1 year ago

Will Burrard-Lucas, a wildlife photographer, has been shooting amazing photos for almost 20 years now. By making it his full-time job in 2010, the photographer has managed to capture a rich variety of wildlife through his lenses.

In an interview with DeMilked, the photographer revealed that the main challenge in wildlife photography is finding and photographing very rare and shy creatures. “To achieve this I created the Camtraptions camera trap system. These are cameras that I can set up on animal trails and leave for many days or weeks. With these I am able to capture images of some of the most elusive animals like the black leopard.”

He recently teamed up with Johann du Toit, the owner of Shompole Wilderness, to create a manmade watering hole to attract the animals who come there to hydrate themselves. Check out some of his stunning shots in the gallery below.

Will said, “I am always aiming to capture images that are fresh and original. Sometimes that means seeking out rarely photographed animals like the black leopard and other times it involves try to find innovative ways to capture well-photographed animals like lions, for example, by using my remote-control BeetleCam to achieve a more intimate perspective.

“I have also found that by spending more time on my projects it forces me to be more creative to continue achieving new shots and this approach has certainly elevated my work. For me, I love being able to immerse myself in these wild places and spend time observing animals. I also enjoy overcoming the technical and field craft challenges required to realise the images I have envisaged,” he added.
