Miniature Batman Takes a Soul-Searching Journey Through Texas

Published 10 years ago

In what might be a darker and more existential take on the popular children’s movie Toy Story, photographer Remi Noël has created a series of images of his trip through Texas featuring a plastic Batman action figure as his only companion.

It all began when Noël took his son’s toy along with him so he’d feel less lonely on his solo trips to the U.S. Then he decided to take pictures of Batman as well. The whimsical yet depressing images portray a Batman toy that seems to be lost in thought, sounding the depths of his soul or pondering the meaning of life.

The photographer has always been interested in the idea of a “timeless America,” which is what drew him to Texas. The works of Jack Kerouac, Edward Hopper and Robert Frank helped Noël choose Texas as the location of Batman’s photoshoot.
