16 Dark Paintings By Chris Jacoub Incorporating His Unique Style Of Dripping Streaks
Chris Jacoub has racked up over 1.7M followers on Instagram by showing his signature style of dripping paint on dark canvases. The Los Angeles-based artist posts videos showing exactly how he places the acrylic paint in pools on a painted canvas. When he carefully lifts the image, suddenly the pools of fluid drip down in vibrant streaks, waves and drops.
Jacoub has experimented with skeleton figures in the past, placing rivers of luminescent fluid dripping down in psychedelic style. In an interview with DeMilked, Jacoub mentioned that though he has been professionally painting since 2018, it was only since mid-2023 that he started creating the fluid acrylic art paintings. He went on to describe the influences behind his work, explaining, “My work takes a lot of inspiration from Surrealism (Dali) and the idea of objects melting to shape new forms. I was also influenced by pouring acrylic art and the aspect of letting the paint flow in a certain direction to create new patterns. Seeing how gravity pulls down the paint and the idea of letting go of control is a subject I tend to explore a lot”.

His latest series titled, Mother Nature and the Four Elements, consists of four canvas paintings of the four elements. Air, Fire, Water and Earth are depicted by feminine figures that each show aspects in the composition related to their respective element. The unique expressions show four renderings of women following his signature style of dripping paint. Each woman is illustrated in a specific colour palette meant to symbolise the distinctive traits of the element they represent.

No matter the theme, Jacoub embodies his work with his unique form of artistry. Speaking on how he manifests what he visualizes, the artist elaborated, “My creative process is similar to what I was taught by my mentor/art teacher. I begin with concept development and what I want to communicate. Then I research the topic/idea and gather as much information as possible. Then loosely I draw 10-15 concepts to figure out the appropriate composition, communication, and where I will strategically place the fluid acrylics for the final pour . I choose 2-3 final sketches and out of those I draw a final sketch. I transfer the sketch onto the canvas then begin painting. Once I’m done with the painting portion I allow it to dry for 48 hours. I seal my painting then place my fluid acrylic onto the canvas for the tilt that is shown in the videos. I stop the acrylic from hitting the bottom of the canvas by letting it back down to dry. The final step can only be done once and is different every time, which is part of the excitement”.
