Published 6 years ago

Sophie de Oliveira Barata is a sculptor and a professional in creating special effects prosthetics based in London. In 2011, she founded The Alternative Limb Project, where she creates beautiful and unique prosthetic art pieces.

In her works, Sophie merges traditional crafts with modern technology and says her creations “explore themes of body image, modification, evolution and transhumanism, whilst promoting positive conversations around disability and celebrating body diversity”.

The artist has worked with many different clients, ranging from musicians to Paralympic athletes. Each of Sophie’s prosthetics is unique and sculpted after thorough consultations with the client, discussing what they like, their style and taste. While the cost is unique to of each of the alternative prosthetics, they start at about £1000 (~$1303).

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
