Designer Deniz Karasahin decided to challenge old-fashioned plaster casts with his prototype of an innovative 3D-printed medical cast, called Osteoid. The ingenious design, with multiple ventilation holes, prevents the wearer from developing itchy skin and bad smells, which plaster casts are prone to. Moreover, the Osteoid features a low-intensity pulsed ultrasound system that makes the healing process up to 40% faster with only 20 min of operation daily. We anticipate that this prototype will become an everyday reality for those who need it.
