100 pictures for 1 memory, 100 memories for 1 picture

Published 6 years ago

Fix and observe the movements of time

At first sight, these photos represent a single picture frozen in time and space …

On closer look, these artworks are meticulously composed of several pictures, up to several hundred of them.

100 pictures for 1 memory, 100 memories for 1 picture

As a memory puzzle, these artworks are fragments of moments taken in various places memorized and pieced together in one single construction, as a unique memory.

Amaury Dubois gives time a new dimension. Because the present is only representation, the artist freezes time while depicting all the wild energies in which we move on: air currents, fluids, water, wind …

These pictures, central parts of the artist’ philosophy, by effect of superimposing and sliding, once frozen, remind us that time never stops, that there is no past, no present, nor future, but the 3 of them at the same time.

Somewhat surrealist, this artist, by applying the “courbisme” (curvism) to photography, reveals us « the invisible world which nevertheless surrounds us », as he likes to say.

These fragments of photographic memories cling, swirl, creating the reconstruction image by image of the memory of a place through time… a sublimated fuzzy memory.

Choosen Moments.

Focus Amaury Dubois Art painter without concession who did a 4 year course in graphic design at St Luc Institute, Tournai, Belgium. From a bedroom/studio covered up with graffiti to colourful fluid and mature paintings, this is the story of a man, Amaury Dubois, from Lille. A man who paints life in motion. His work is exhibited in different art galleries across Europe, but some of his pieces are also part of many European and international art collections (in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, Brazil, the USA …) His next exhibition will take place in Singapour in April 2016. Interested and always questioning the world we live in, everything becomes inspiring. He developed at a very young age an interest in architecture, botanic astronomy, history, literature and music. A thirst for knowledge, which became the foundation of his work today. We can surely recognize some inspiration from the surrealism mixed to the cubism but Amaury Dubois talks about “Courbimes” (curvism) . Because nothing is straight in real life. Because he has decided to break straight lines. Because revolts cannot support straightness. Because his art has been fulfilled with a passion for everything that is fluid, liquid, aqueous, pictorial synthesis of his own way to see the world, a place full of references...
