Painting The Spirit Of Flowers: Vera Kavura’s Artistic Love Letter To Nature (20 Pics)
Ukrainian artist Vera Kavura doesn’t just paint flowers—she paints their spirit. With soft pastels and a reverent heart, she transforms fleeting floral moments into luminous portraits bursting with emotion and presence. Her work, celebrated online for its delicacy and vibrancy, feels less like still life and more like soul life—each bloom exuding quiet stories and hidden energy.
In an exclusive interview with DeMilked, Vera reflected on how her journey began: “I began painting with soft pastels in 2017. From the very beginning, I was drawn to working with fresh, living flowers — their light, color, and form are constantly shifting throughout the day. That’s why I usually try to complete each piece in a single session: to capture that fleeting moment, the unique mood and character the flower reveals only briefly.”
Her paintings are deeply rooted in presence. She doesn’t freeze flowers in time; she honors their impermanence. Each bloom she paints is a moment lived and lost—a tribute to its temporary beauty. Vera explained, “Nature is my greatest muse — especially flowers. I gather and arrange the bouquets myself, and each one becomes a living model. For me, painting flowers is like painting portraits: every bloom has its own energy, its own presence. I strive to reflect not only its physical beauty but also the soul of the flower.”
Vera’s floral portraits shimmer with this philosophy. Whether it’s a bold sunflower exuding warmth or a fragile tulip arching like a dancer mid-step, her subjects feel alive. They are not just pretty petals, but beings with their own identity. She shared insight into her process: “I always work from life. Living flowers have a rhythm — they speak, if you listen. I start by composing the bouquet, paying close attention to every curve, shade, and gesture of each flower. That moment of observation is already the beginning of the painting. The flowers guide me through the process, and I follow.”
This intuitive, almost meditative approach sets Vera apart. Her artwork doesn’t impose on nature—it listens to it. The softness of pastels allows her to blend light and shadow as delicately as petals curve into sunlight. Each of her works is an ode to transience and tenderness, a moment of stillness in a fast-moving world. Through her hands, flowers don’t merely decorate a page—they sing, they whisper, they glow.
