People Can’t Get Enough Of This Couple That Live Like It’s The 1930s (20 Pics)
Some of us wish we could live in the “good old days” when mass consumerism wasn’t so rampant and people dressed a lot more dapper. And while that isn’t really possible, one couple from the UK has found the next best thing.
The couple in question, Ruth Shelley and Robert Oestmann, live their lives as if they were still in the 1930s, always dressing up in unique matching outfits reflecting the era. In a recent interview with Bored Panda, Robb explained that his appreciation for this lifestyle came from his mother who used to collect antiques. “I also love old movies, and would watch them with my grandmother,” explained the man. “These days, I visit museums and heritage railways to learn about history. I find it feels right when in historical clothes.”

Ruth, on the other hand, explained that initially she wasn’t into clothes or makeup at all, and it was only when she tried 1940s makeup at an even that she discovered how good it looks on her. “And everything went from there, the makeup, then the clothes and hair a few years later, and I’d say by the time I was 20 or 21 I was very much on the fashion track I’ve stayed on since!” added Ruth.

Robb says he finds his clothes in vintage stores and various events, and adds that finding the right size can be quite the challenge. “Occasionally, they’ll have something that fits!” said the man.

Ruth says that people enjoy seeing the couple dressed the way they do, and the stares they get are usually positive. “People sometimes stop us to ask for pictures, especially when we are out together,” added the woman. “When I’m going to parties I very occasionally get children in the street or on the bus asking me if I am going to a ball, which is adorable… I sometimes say yes just to watch their excited little faces!”
